You’ll find flannel sheets offered in a weight usually between 4 and 7 ounces. The metric equivalent is 160 grams to 200 grams. The heavier the weight, the thicker and warmer the flannel. So if you want flannel sheets for warmer weather, buy the lighter weight ones. But for cold, snowy winter nights, you’ll definitely appreciate the warmth and comfort of the heavier flannel sheets.

Since flannel is weighed and not counted, thread count means nothing, Most flannel sheets are made of a four ounce cotton fabric. The weight is based on a square inch of flannel fabric. Ultra thick flannel bedding usually has a weight of at least 6 ounces per square inch. A rule of thumb is that the higher the weight, the thicker and warmer the bed linens.

Wow I never really thought about flannel bedding, but it totally makes sense!
Flanel bed sheets are the best during the cold wintertime. However, they aren’t too fun come summertime, assuming you don’t live in the north pole.
I love flannel sheets! I even take the pillow cases and cut them into little dresses for my daughters. They are perfect!

I use flannel sheets all year. I find that tightly woven smooth cotton sheets are very hot and block any air circulation.
