Best recommendation for flannel sheets?
Now that we live in the great white north, we can finally use the flannel sheets that my mother-in-law gave us. And we love them. They keep us very toasty. Unfortunately, with wear and wash, they have started to pill up. And they are no longer soft and smooth.
Does anyone have any recommendations for flannel sheets that you’ve used that wear well and stay soft and smooth?
Thanks so much!

my wife says to never use heat on flannel and it will last forever…. she hangs all my shirts, her p.j.’s, and the sheets to dry always and softens them up after they are dry with the air cycle in the drier….. she may be right too, i have one shirt that i bought 17 years ago and every seam has been fixed at one time or another… even the pocket has been re-attached.. the buttons don’t even match each other.
also, never use harsh detergents… like the ones with ‘bleach alternative’ and you don’t need brightening agents when you always use cold water to wash… woolite is good to use if you think its fading. If flannel needs to be deodorized use baking soda, one quarter cup and let it soak in the washer before washing.
and as with any sheets… the higher the thread count the sturdier the fabric… and high thread count feels soft & snuggly too!
I know what you mean and I’m in the great white north too!
I found that the Flannel Sheets that Walmart sells are both economical and well-wearing. I bought mine 4 years ago and they still are as soft and plush as after their very first wash.
The brand is called "Main Stays Home". Hope this helps!
LL Bean has excellent quality flannel, but its not cheap. One of the best ways to get it at a discount is to watch for their sale flyers (usually they come in the boxes w/your order) for the "end of season" flannels. Typically those are prints or solid colors they are discontinuing. I have a flannel duvet & matching pillow shams and the flannel is thick and soft. (It actually makes the comforter TOO warm to use). I’ve never washed it with any special treatment but perhaps that with a high quality flannel will give you the longer life you’re looking for.
I do know what you mean about the pilling. Once my flannel pills, it’s just not the same anymore.
